  • As the sun rises, a member of the Iowa National Guard 224th Batallion, is lost in thought as he returns home to Iowa by bus from ft. Sill, Ok., at the end of an all night trip.   His unit spent a week of demobilization at Ft. Sill, a process that left the soldiers weary, especially after spending the past year in Iraq.  Many soldiers who return from Iraq find the adjustment difficult, often experiencing marital problems and challenges assimilating  back into society.  The reunion for the 224th was in Fairfield, Iowa.

  • A doll found during a Mississippi River cleanup effort clings to the barge where Chad Pregracke works and lives.   In 1998 Pregracke  founded Living Lands & Waters, the not-for-profit environmental organization based in East Moline, Illinois. Today, there are several employees and a fleet of several barges and workboats. Thousands of volunteers have cooperated to help with the community cleanups.  Tons of waste are cleaned out of rivers each year thanks to Pregracke's efforts.

  • The Valle Drive-In in Newton, Iowa, is one of only four outdoor movie theaters left in the state.  By showing recent releases, like the hit movie, WALL-E, the Valle is able to stay in business. ..The oldest of Iowa's operating Drive-ins (since 1948), the Valle.has had four sets of owners down through the years,.but has been run by the current owner and operating.continuously since 1976.  ..Double features are shown nightly, and .there are still some functional traditional speakers.in addition to AM/FM radio broadcasting of the audio.which is now enhanced with DTS digital processing...

  • Four-year-old Olivia Roe couldn't wait for the 1034th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion to be dismissed before seeing her father, Captain Dewight Roe, so she joined them while they stood in formation.  The unit had been in Iraq for 14 months, and received a homecoming at Camp Dodge in Des Moines, Iowa.
