The 1980's saw America endure the worst rural economic crisis since the Great Depression. Farm foreclosures lost jobs and the decline of small-town life were the byproducts of the crisis that swept across the country. As a photojournalist working for the largest newspaper in Iowa, I had the opportunity to document this story, along with the range of emotions that came with it. The result was this photo essay that won the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography for 1987.
